Courthouse Security

Mission Statement

The mission of the Courthouse Security Office is to provide a safe environment for judges, employees and all visitors coming into the Wayne County Municipal Court. The Courthouse Security Office shall maintain the security of the courthouse in order to protect the integrity of court procedures; to ensure the rights of individuals before it; to deter those who would take violent action against the court or its participants in court proceedings; and to sustain the decorum of the court.

Entering the Courthouse

There is one entrance to the courthouse on North Grant Street in which the public can access the courthouse. All persons and their property are searched prior to entry or re-entry into the courthouse. All persons entering the courthouse will be required to proceed through a metal detector to ensure they are not carrying any weapons or contraband on their person that can be perceived as a weapon. Subjects will be required to place all bags, purses, briefcases and other such items through an x-ray inspection system to be scanned to ensure no weapons or contraband are being brought into the courthouse. Any weapons that are located on an individual will be seized and the subject may face possible legal action.

Visitor Information

Weapons or items that may be potentially used as a weapon are prohibited inside the courthouse. Food, drinks or backpacks are also prohibited. Cell phones and electronic devices must be turned off inside the courtrooms. Proper attire is required at the court.  Visitors may be asked to leave if their attire is not appropriate for court hearings and/or other business conducted at the court.
