Driving privileges are a privilege, not a right. Driving privileges are not guaranteed and are not processed in a day. Typically, upon filing your motion for driving privileges, the court will rule upon your motion within seven (7) to ten (10) business days. Please allow that time for your motion to be processed. The court reviews your driving record and obtains all other necessary information to make an informed decision.
If your motion is granted, your driving privileges are not valid until you obtain a “Driving Letter” or “Court Order” from the court. Probation Officer, Ariel Walker, coordinates driving privileges and will either mail, email, or ask you to obtain your letter in person.
This holds true even if you are granted driving privileges in the courtroom. In the event the Judge grants driving privileges from the bench, you are not valid until you have confirmation from Probation Officer Walker and you receive your “Driving Letter” or “Court Order” from the court. This will not occur on the same day you were in court. Documentation must be processed with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, via the Wayne County Clerk of Courts and Probation Officer Walker, before the Bureau of Motor Vehicles acknowledges your driving privileges. Upon obtaining your driving privileges, you must follow all further instructions and compliances for your driving privileges to remain valid.
At the bottom of this screen, you will find application instructions and all necessary documentation to file a “Motion for Driving Privileges” with the Wayne County Clerk of Courts. When applying for driving privileges, you must complete all the steps listed in the application instructions. Failure to complete these steps will result in your application being denied.
***** Probation Officer Walker conducts all driving privilege matters on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There are no exceptions to her schedule. Driving privilege questions will not be answered on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays. You must call or visit the Probation Department to schedule a telephone or an in-person appointment for either a Tuesday or Thursday.
